An engraving on the inside of a ring or a hollow setting - invisible from the outside, yet legible when the piece is put on or stored. The classic form for intimate inscriptions: initials, a date of death, a motto, a biblical verse. In the posy ring and the Victorian mourning ring it is the standard position.

Which inscriptions occur most often historically?

Can photographed handwriting really be engraved?
