How is the fingerprint captured?

Three procedures are standard today. Digital tablet capture - a dedicated app takes the fingerprint without ink, either directly at the coffin or during life at a visit to the workshop. Ink-pad impression - the classic ink method, followed by a high-resolution scan. 3D scan - for premium pieces, to transfer the relief exactly. The workshop optimises the image into a high-contrast line pattern and transfers it into the metal at a one-to-one scale.

What size is a fingerprint pendant?

Usually 1.5 to 3 cm in diameter - large enough to show the line pattern legibly, small enough for everyday wear. On larger pieces (parent-and-child pendants with several prints) up to 4 cm. Laser engraving permits very fine line widths (from 0.02 mm), so even small pendants show the full level of detail of the original impression.

Which material is best suited?

For everyday wear: gold 585 or 750 (classic, soft enough for deep engraving, stable in its lustre) or sterling silver (mid price segment, darkens attractively within the engraved lines). Platinum is very hard, so the lines come out exceptionally clean, but the material is more expensive. Stainless steel is a robust, everyday-capable option for a modern piece.

Can a fingerprint pendant be commissioned during a person's lifetime?

Yes, and very frequently so. Parents have pendants made bearing the fingerprint of their infant, couples exchange print pendants, siblings commission pieces together. Capture takes only a few minutes, and the piece is ready to ship within two to four weeks. Digital prints taken before a death can still be transferred into jewellery decades later.
